TESLA has revealed the guide prices for Semi Truck, which was revealed alongside the new Roadster at the launch event last week. Here is a full guide to the electric vehicle’s price, specs, tech and design.
It was previously reported that Tesla was accepting $5,000 deposits for the Semi but is now listing a ‘base reservation’ price of $20,000 for the production-ready version.
While it is more expensive than a diesel truck, prices were expected to be higher for the Semi truck.
This is because the $180,000 500-mile model is expected to have a 1MWh battery pack onboard to allow the 500 miles of range on a single charge.
The truck is powered by four independent electric motors mounted on each wheel which can alter torque to eliminate jackknifing.
Incredibly, the Semi Truck can go from zero-60mph in just five seconds and, even with a max load of 80,000lbs, it can accelerate to 60mph in just 20 seconds.
The Semi can also travel up a five percent gradient with a max load at 65 mph, compared to a diesel truck that can travel 45mph.
Musk said the truck costs $1.26 per mile to run and is 20 percent cheaper than a diesel truck from day one.
